Version 1.3 · 14 October 2026

Driftsong is a small game made by Arnold. This page says, in plain words, what the game keeps about you and why.

The short version

What we keep

WhatWhyHow long
Your username and password (the password is stored scrambled, so nobody can read it)So you can log inUntil you delete your account
For guest accounts made before 11 October 2026 (new players make an account): a random code made by the game on your computer or browserSo that player came back as the same characterUntil the account is deleted
Your character: look, level, experience, health, where you stand, your Shells, Notes and potions, and a list of every change to themTo save your progress, and to stop cheating and duplicationUntil you delete your account
Feedback you send from the game (with your username, the game version and the map)To read it and improve the game180 days
Crash reports: if the game closed by accident, the end of its log file (it can include your computer's system name and graphics card), your username and the game versionTo find and fix the crash30 days
Play-time records: how many minutes and sessions you played each day, and your levelTo see if the game is fun (do people come back? how long do they play?)400 days
Chat: what you say on a map passes through our server to the players there; private messages go to one player. Neither is saved; the server only remembers a map's last 60 messages while the map is open, so a report can be checkedSo people can talk, and so reports are fairUntil the map closes (minutes)
Reports: when someone reports a chat message, the message, both usernames and the map go to the Driftsong team's private Discord channel and our server logTo deal with bad behaviourDiscord: until we've handled it; server log: a few days
Friends, blocks and parties: who you added as a friend or blocked, the party you're in (its members' usernames), and the map and channel you last joined (your friends and party see whether you're online and where)So you can play with friends, keep away people you don't want to hear from, and find each otherUntil you remove them, leave the party, or delete your account
Class choice records: when you reached level 10, which class trials you tried (and if you cleared them), the class you chose, how long after level 10 you chose it, and if you used the free class changeTo see if choosing a class works well for playersUntil you delete your account
Server logs, including your IP addressTo keep the server running and safeA few days (logs are capped and replaced as they fill up)
Backups of all of the aboveSo nothing is lost if something breaks14 days

We never ask for your real name, your email address, your age, or payment details.

Where it's kept

On our own game server, rented from Linode (Akamai), in a data center in Amsterdam, in the European Union. Only Arnold has access. No other company receives your data, except chat reports, which go to the Driftsong team's private channel on Discord.

Your choices

Children

Driftsong is made to be friendly for everyone. We don't ask for personal information, and we don't knowingly keep any from children under 13. If you believe a child has shared personal information with us (for example in a feedback message), delete the account in the game (F1), or tell us on the Driftsong Discord server, https://discord.gg/vFUWys9Tzc, and we'll delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be on this page with its date. Big changes will also be announced in the game or on the website.
